Oran is a city in Missouri with just over 1,000 residents.  This small Midwestern town is quaint and quiet, making it an ideal place to raise a family.  Founded in 1869, the town was initially known as Sylvania. The name was changed to Oran by a sea captain who had spent time in Oran, Algeria. It was founded in 1869.  The moderate weather is seasonal, meaning that it is hot in the summers and cold in the winters but never extremely so.  Everything about Oran is homey, cozy and comfortable.  

Morley Café is a local hotspot where people love to eat, drink and socialize.  In addition, right on the outskirts of town is Schindler’s Tavern - an old and historic bar which actually holds the oldest liquor license in the state.  It is a local favorite hangout and has even been voted as the best burger in the state.  The food is inexpensive, the beer is cold and everything about it just screams Midwestern dive bar.  It is a must-see, for sure.

This area is very family-oriented and most people are churchgoers who take their faith quite seriously.  There are many churches in the community that serve their members and the community at large with events, fundraisers and more.  Churchgoers spend the wintery days before Christmas warm in the sanctuaries of their places of worship and the warm springs and summers outdoors for cookouts, picnics, festivals and more.  It is not necessary to state that the people of this town love their churches and pour a great deal of pride and money into them.  The Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran is a great example of this with its beautiful exterior and ornately decorated interior.  For Protestants there is the First Baptist Church of Oran which is a well-respected church in the area, as well.
